A transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE), also known as cardiac ultrasound or ‘echo’, is a diagnostic test that uses ultrasound to capture moving images of your heart using high frequency sound waves that are transmitted into the body.
The Cardiac technologist will ask you to undress to the waist. 10 electrodes (sticky tabs) will be attached to your chest. An ECG (tracing of your heart) will be taken whilst you are lying down and resting.
The aim of this test is for you to walk for 6 minutes as fast as you can. The test is carried out on a flat surface in the corridor and does not involve walking on a treadmill.
